GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS
Winning Streak Extends To District, Md. and Va.
Dan Balz and Tim Craig/Washington Post (02/13/2008)
Obama had his most impressive night of the competition, not just in the size of his victory margins but in the breadth of support he attracted from men and women, young voters and old, African Americans and whites. The results left Clinton, the one-time front-runner for the Democratic nomination, in a deep hole.

Christian evangelicals send McCain a message
Associated Press (02/13/2008: msnbc.msn.com)
WASHINGTON - Mike Huckabee's recent refrain about believing in miracles makes the ordained Baptist minister appear almost prophetic. Christian evangelicals in Virginia who favored him in droves seemed to send the would-be Republican presidential nominee John McCain a message from on high — they won't roll over so easily.

Associated Press (02/13/2008: boston.com)
ALBANY, N.Y. - Two elected Hispanic leaders in New York said they would be distressed if Hillary Clinton's Hispanic campaign manager was replaced because of a string of losses when others, including former president Bill Clinton, should shoulder the blame.

EDUCATION
Colleges Seek to Protect Church Tills
Kathy Matheson/Associated Press (02/13/2008: ap.google.com)
Many U.S. churches have been victims of embezzlement over the years, reflecting not just moral weakness on the part of the wrongdoers, but lax financial controls. Often, church budgets are overseen by volunteers or employees with little guidance or professional training. Now, some colleges are hoping to prevent such faith-shattering abuses by offering programs devoted specifically to managing church finances and personnel.

CONGREGATIONS AND FAITH GROUPS
Members of Fort Worth's Broadway Baptist Church call for pastor's firing
Sam Hodges/Dallas Morning News (02/13/2008)
Deacons of Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth are recommending that an anniversary pictorial directory have no family photos, an effort to defuse a controversy over whether gay couples should be included. But troubles for the moderate Baptist congregation are mounting, with some members calling for the firing of Senior Minister Brett Younger, saying he has mishandled the directory issue and led the church in too liberal a direction on homosexuality and theology.
